Miniature Japanese Teahouse Diorama House & Garden Hand Made Vintage 1970's NIB. This vintage Japanese miniature teahouse diorama measures 3.25 inches high by 5.88 inches wide by 3 inches deep. It depicts a thatched roof country teahouse complete with a majestic pine, a well for water, a long scoop to reach the water, a hibachi, a preparation table, a serving table atop a raised platform, a zabuton cushion, a platter with pastries, a set of Fusuma doors on the back wall, wood leaning against the house for burning in the hibachi and 2 square stepping stones one at the teahouse entrance and one in front of the well. The micro world of diorama shops, as well as various other miniature common things portraying a slice of life of people of Edo is commonly known as the Edo Zaiku ---- Edo style crafts. From the spirit of Bonsai trees and Netsuke, Japanese are well known for their love of small but extremely detailed and meticulously crafted items and this type of special crafts became extremely popular in Edo, present day Tokyo in the 18th and 19th centuries. It became a type of status symbol to collect and own many finely crafted miniature items.

It was not uncommon that a chest of drawer measuring less than an inch tall could command as much as 10 times more than a real piece of furniture if a famous craftsman built it. Following the tradition, this piece was made with extreme care and attention to the details to capture the flavor of a country tea house of long gone past. The condition is excellent and its age is from the 1970's.

It has been kept stored in its original box which itself is also in excellent condition.
