The frame is ribbed, as well as the bale. This was done by hand, not by machine. The tiny discoloration in the bale is simply a smudge. Sometimes my camera takes photos that can be (too) specific. This may have been an image (painting) of a daughter made for her mother. This piece is hand painted and as a piece of art, well, isn't that what jewelry is. I love to wear interesting pieces of jewelry. They become some great conversation pieces. And discovering and finding them is always fun. You wont find another piece like this in your local jewelry store. Thats what I love the most about vintage and antique jewelry.
